A friend and I were talking the other day about the Terri Schiavo case over in Florida. I'm not about to comment on the case as a whole, but there is one thing in particular that I think is wrong. First though, the big question I have is, are the people that are doing the prayer/protest praying that she'll be healed or praying that her feeding tube will be replaced? What would be better? Praying for her feeding tube to be replaced makes as much sense as giving a thirsty person a cup of water instead of showing them the faucet. Thankfully Jesus didn't die to make our lives good. He died so that we would have eternal life free from sin. Second, I love this country and the right we have to protest and the fact that often times protesting injustice truly makes a difference. But I think coupling public prayer with protest is flat out wrong! Thinking about it yesterday I was reminded of this passage out of Matthew 6:5:
“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full."
When we pray, let's pray in a way that God would be glorified, not us, and let's pray expecting miracles not mediocrity
