California's Redwood Coast
Update...
12.16.04 (8:37 am)   [edit]
The next couple weeks are going to be packed to the max with joyous activities so my blogging will most likely be put on hold until the new year. Tomorrow is my last day of work here at the Center and I'm looking forward to starting my new job at the begining of the year.
Jess and I are going to close out the year here with consistent partying (literally every night) until we leave on Tuesday for Seattle. We'll have a layover in Eugene on Tuesday night where we will enjoy "Burger and a Brew" with our wonder ful friends Mike and Adrienne, then on to my in-laws place in Washington where we'll spend Christmas and New Years.
Have a dopealicious Christmas everyone!

YWAM Peeps
12.09.04 (12:18 pm)   [edit]

'Tis the season to travel and it just so happens that a variety of YWAM peeps will be in northern California the next few weeks. Some of whom will be visiting northern, northern California where we live. If your in the area and need a place to stay give us a ring, we'd love to see you.
This weekend my home slice Randy direct from PA will be chillin with us. I haven't seen him since my DTS, so it'll be cool to catch up.

Coffee
12.08.04 (1:44 pm)   [edit]

So I never used to drink coffee. Then I married a Barista (coffee maker chick, for the layperson). I started having an occasional iced coffee during the summer which I found to be a refreshing kick to my day. Then at a Starbucks in San Francisco I had a bad experience with iced coffee so I switched to regular "hot" coffee. Now I'm scared.
I'm pretty sure I drank a whole pot of coffee today. After you drink a whole pot, where do you go from there? Is this going to be like a cigarette addiction? You have your social coffee drinkers, your two cups a day people, then your one pot or even more a day. Do they have national c offee free days, like "The Great American Smokeout"? Is there a caffeine patch or gum?

This is new territory for me, and I'm sitting here wondering if this headache I have is a  byproduct of an addiction, or the stress of unanswered questions.

So I have decided to quit drinking coffee.

Phew, I feel a lot better.

I think I'll reward myself with a Mountain Dew from the soda machine.

Crappy music
12.03.04 (12:54 pm)   [edit]
Last week I was flipping around on the tube when a music awards show caught my eye. The reason it caught my eye is because it was on at a weird time, so I knew it wasn't a major one. I immediately realized it was Christian. Turns out it was the annual Christian country music awards. I yelled into the other room and asked Jess if she knew that there was such a thing as “Christian Country Music.” She said she’d never heard of it but knew of some country artists who were Christian. I then proceeded to watch the last ten minutes of this show. Let me tell you, it was a winner!

Of course there was no one performing or winning awards who sounded even remotely familiar and the music for the most part was very mediocre. Honestly you could probably hear stuff just as quality at church, and that’s not saying much. Another thing that cracked me up was, as they were panning around the small building that probably seated no more than 1500 people, it wasn’t even full. Christian music has come a long way. It used to be said that Christian Music (and I use that term loosely) is about ten years behind. I’d say on the whole it’s probably about 4 years behind now, with the exception of some bands like Lifehouse, P.O.D. and a handful of Indy and Hip Hop Artists, some of which have “crossed over.” What I’m sick of is rewarding mediocrity! We have too much of that in Christian culture as it is. Who cares if someone won a “Dove” award. All that signifies is that they’ve reached the niche of influence they’re already in. It’s time for artists that are Christian to strive for excellence, and not be afraid to play good music that doesn’t have cheesy lyrics, that reach only those who are already reached.

*Foosh steps down from soap box to enjoy the weekend

If you missed some wierdos from my home town on the Tonight Show you can check it out here. It's not the whole segment from the show, but you'll get a taste.
