Yeah we got big trees
07.30.04 (8:07 am) [edit]
This is a belated blog entry - This last weekend our bestest friend Danielle from New York/Kona/LA came up to visit Jessica and me for a lovely fogged in weekend in the redwoods. There was laughter and there was tears as we remembered the good times, lamented the hard times and played Bubble Bobble until we beat it.

We have some rather large trees up here in Humboldt County. This is the bottom of an old fallen redwood.

LIVE LIFE TO THE FULLEST!

Being purposeful now!
07.22.04 (8:05 am) [edit]
You know it seems like like a lot my life has been spent looking forward to when God is "really" going to use me. Whether it's Hawaii, China or my home town of Eureka I always seem to be looking down the road thinking, "I can't wait to get to the really important stuff in life". When I was in high school it was looking forward to college, when I was single then it was marriage. Jessica and I both have strong feelings about things we're gong to do in the future and places we'll go, but in a prayer time the other night God said, "Don't forget about the place I've called you to now!"
And so it begins, although I've been living here for two years, it begins now. Every day is a day filled with divine purpose. I've been leading the college/career group now for the last year and I've had different visions and ideas for what could happen with it. But the coolest thing is that lately I've realized that some of those ideas weren't mine to begin with. It starts with a friend getting married to another college pastor and moving two doors down. Then realizing that the people who live between us are also involved in a college group. Hmm? Three apartments in a row all filled with the same type of people? Then I go to a meeting of college leaders and hear a vision that is similar to the one that I have. God is definitely brewing something up here in good old Humboldt County and I'll tell you what... it's going to change the way we do church! Oh yes it's that big...

Weekend shmeekend
07.19.04 (3:01 pm) [edit]
Rule #1 don't go camping anywhere near an area where a concert may be happening.
This weekend Jess and I had visions of a nice relaxing night camping in the redwoods. While setting up our tent on our beautiful spot overlooking the river, my first sign of trouble was a strong whiff of Humboldt Bud. Lo and behold the campsite across from ours was full of grungy, stoner, hippies in their late 30's. Around 6:00 they all disappeared to a benefit concert featuring "The String Cheese Inicident" that was going on up the highway. As feared, they returned right around sleepy time for me and proceeded to party through the night with out any consideration for other people in the campground. The only thing that kept me from breaking some knee caps was the fact that I had to lead worsip at church on Sunday and knew I couldn't if I had old, grungy, stoner, hippie blood on my hands.
In other news the Governor of my great state recently called the state legislators a bunch of "Girly Men" due to their inability to get together the state budget. What a guy! I bet my governor can beat up your governor.

Mase is back!
07.16.04 (9:37 am) [edit]
So if your into Hip Hop at all you may remember when Ma$e (spelled like that cuz it's all about the cash, or was) suddenly dropped out of the scene because he reportedly got saved. Well 5 years later he's back, which I personally am stoked about. What I'm not sure about is how Dr. Mason Betha has been discipled the last 5 years. I'm not saying that he's way off or anything, and I'm sure God is using him, but deep down some things dont rub me right. Anyways you can decide for yourself and check out Mase's ministry S.A.N.E.
Check out his videotoo...

They still make these?
07.15.04 (12:10 pm) [edit]
Like most Christian kids, meetings at church weren't the most exciting thing. So what did I do to keep myself occupied (besides filling in fake visitor cards) you might ask? Just head back to the old tract rack and you had instant entertainment for hours. These were my favorite!

*Note the catchy slogan: "Most Christians want to witness, but many never do. With Chick tracts, it's so easy you'll [b]ENJOY[/b] it."

Wedding anniversary numero uno was spent in the small coastal town of San Francisco. Activities included: Giants Game, Ballet, and typical tourist browsing in China Town, Fishermans Wharf/Pier 39/Ghiradelli Square and Union Square which is where our hotel was located. We also hit up the Japanese tea garden in Golden Gate park and went to the zoo. All in all it was an awesome weekend. It's crazy to think Jess and I have been married for a year already and you know what, I've got it pretty darn good.

Yes, I was one of the many conservative Christian children who was homeschooled, but when I see stuff like this I have to admit it freaks me out. Go ahead, click on the village and enjoy!

Well things at work have been insane in the membrane as of late. My boss is out with some pretty major back problems so I have been "temporarily promoted" (whatever that means) to Interm MIS Manager. Thankfully I had a three day weekend that allowed me to recoup a bit from non-stop work. Here's a wierd coincidence for ya - Today is my Dad's B-day which happens to be George Dubbya's as well. My b-day was on June 12th which happens to be George Seniors...cue twighlight zone music. What this could possibly mean, I know not? I do know that I'm going to get my grind on at the best Mexican food joint around.

The fog
07.02.04 (12:39 pm) [edit]
Well it's Friday and the sun is finally out in good old Humboldt County. Hopefully it stays nice through the weekend or all we'll see on the 4th is glowing fog. Planning to take it easy this weekend and enjoy the food at the street festivals and an extra day off...oh yeah. I've had this wierd rash type thing on my right eye lid for a few weeks now and am starting to think that it won't go away on it's own. Maybe I need to have better eye safety?
